Geocaching over Hungary

Finally, for some, work days are over and Saturday came so we went on a field trip. smile Looking at the weather that day we believe that no one would go out let alone went for a walk in nature over mud looking for geocaches. But our team - Zagy, Maja and Matko went determined on hunt for the "hidden treasure".

The plan was to find 5 geocaches in surrounding places around Pecs, but we achieved twice as that. Alltogether we have found 11 geocaches that day. We will shortly describe certain places and geocaches that we believe they are worth of mentioning.

Our first destination was a small village south-west from Pecs called Kokeny. When we came there, and it was Saturday about 9:30 AM, everything looked asleep. The geocache that lured us to this place was actually missing but Zagy contacted the owner Barbara so we visited geocache location. Barbara has told Zagy that in this place live her grandparents. Zagy, as he is a bit "crazy", suggested, of course, that we visit them. And guess what? He rang them in 10:00 AM. smile

To our general surprise those people were very kind. And no matter that three strangers just came to their house they offered to have breakfast with them. They fluently spoke Croatian so it wasn't misunderstanding. We explained to them how we found them, and what are we and their granddaughter doing when we say geocaching. That is pure example how something like geocaching connects people, creates new contacts and in our case friendship.

Other two geocaches led us further through Kokeny to visit their lake and church.

The lake especially enchanted us. Although it was cloudy and rainy weather the nature and it's colors did their part. It was very nice to walk around the lake, spot some wild geese and swans, cross bridges over the lake, to climb on the lookout tower from which this panorama was made. We also saw some fishermen - crazy enthusiasts in love in ther hoby just like we at ours. smile It was really good start of our geocaching day.

Further, we visited place called Pellerd and castle Brazay. The castle was situated on some lake and we were surprised how nice and tidy it looked around. We decided to make picnic here so we sat at the nearby table and had a good meal. The weather was slowly getting better so next destination was the upper part of the city of Pécs. We knew that the roads will be hilly and winding, but for our chauffeur Zagy that wasn't much of a problem. smile

All other geocaches worth mentioning have had beautiful view at the city. The nicest view was when we found geocache Nike statue. So, like it says on the picture it wasn't the monument that company Nike placed here. At first we also searched their characteristic sign. smile However it is about the victory goddess so it is obvious that company Nike bears that name.

Another geocache that we'll mention was geocache Mescek Gate. Comming here, in front of that so called gate, already delighted us, but the fact that here was a hidden geocaches made things even more appealing. smile

We held here quite a bit, and we have fun searching for the cache at the wrong spot. The coordinates were a bit off measured - 17 meters from the real hiding spot. smile But, it doesn't matter, what matter is that we have found it, got a bit dirty and enjoyed in everything.

We will end our tour at Hungary with the story that we solved the mystery behind geocache Knowledge Center so we found and saw their National and University Library in Pecs. And, like the cream on the top of the cake, on the other side was McDonald's restaurant. For us it couldn't turned better. Tired and starved that restaurant was the real choice for us then. smile Until next geocaching adventure greetings from geocaching crew that day Zagy, Matko and Maja.
