Geocaching over Zagreb

(26th of December 2012 - 1st of January 2013 )

Zagreb's crest

Every year Maja and me plan to go on a vacation to our major city Zagreb. Usually we visit Zagreb in period between Christmas and New Year. That was this time also.

However, you wouldn't read this text if there wasn't a bit of geocaching to fulfill the whole visit. The plan was to find 15 hidden geocaches of all sorts (traditional, multi and mystery caches). But we love geocaching so much that we found almost double - 27 if memmory still serves us. smile Don't worry, we won't write about all of them. smile We can't even remebmer which have we found and it is not important to mention every one. We will stick on those that we love through geocaching so we will write and show the best that stayed in our memories after two months. Because of the locations and possible spoiler we won't be writing the geocache names and their owners. They will surely recognize themselves in this text. smile

As always, there were all kind of geocaches - those hidden in natrue, those that get you all dirty, those that took so much time to grab untill muggles disapear and those mysteries that you first solve in comfortable chair in front of your computer. smile

The title for the best cache that we have found during our stay in Zagreb goes to the cache that showes whole beauty of wall graffities. What was interesting is when we were making this panorama one dad and his daughter were watching the whole time from a window above.

We can't say if they knew that we have spotted them but they were surely proud when someone is photographing graffitie on their building. smile Also, Maja who studdied here in Zagreb remembers all kind of trams so this was a memory of it.

In a town like Zagreb urban geocaching is something easily done. All you need is daily ticket so that you can use public transport (trams and buses). Maybe the caches were far away from each other but using this routes and public transport we could go quickly from one cache to another.

Note on a tram station

Waiting on station for wright tram we spotted this note. Offcourse that we immediately thought what would everyone - some rude note of something... But this note literaly swept us off our feet. In todays world when there is little good we came upon this message. Really very nice from the author. Translation goes like this:"If you are often lonely and searching for romantic and gentle love and you are thinking that I'm the one don't doubt. We could meet anywhere, at the street, in the park... Reach for my hand and follow me!" smile

Another geocache worth mentioning, because of the idea, and then because of the box, content inside and the location was sesional type of geocache wich appeares only during christmas holidays. When they pass geocache is also archieved. If you have been in Zagreb during that time you couldn't miss to see big decorated christmas trees across town. And near one of those trees was hidden that sesional geocache. For us, this was the second time to find this geocache from the same owner. And this time, like the time before we couldn't remember how to open it. Unfortunatelly pictures of me opening it are all blury because Maja was laughing while taking photos. smile

But the content, that we can show you. It is really sesional and will find its place next year on our christmas tree. smile

Except for city transport (buses and trams) we regulary used local trains which drove you even faster at your destination. This time going by train was fullfiled with geocache find which was right next to the railway. Maybe you'll think what is so special to hide geocache there. Look at this two picture and decide for yourself how the moment can really be beautifull. (photo) & (photo).

We definitely have to mention the most unordinary water pumps all over Zagreb. "Pimp My Pump" crew decided to decorate those rusty green pumps and give them a boost. Geocacher who is friend with the crew has decided to place series of caches throughout Zagreb where those pumps were decorated. And because of geocaching we found out about them. So the long forgotten pumps become a lot nicer, and the citizens who live near them can be pround from now.

Rest of the days until New Year we decided to spent in nature. As we had internet access we found out about few hidden geocaches on Sljeme and they were located on the route that we already wanted to visit.

But because of beautifull landscape, easy walk and stopping on each corner to photograph something stopped us to come to geocache location. So we came to resting place called Kraljičin zdenac, rest a while and had a good meal, and went to a bus station. We weren't sorry for the opportunity to find the cache because we have even more important memories for us - photos. smile

Our stay in Zagreb is almost over so it only remained to celebrate New Year 2013. In Zagreb there isn't better place for us but to celebrate it on main city square of Ban Jelačić. Night sky wasn't foggy this year so fireworks were awsome and well photographed. smile

We decided to celebrate New Years spirit, walking over town and find those caches that are immposible to find on normal day without someone spotting you. Such geocache was at Zagreb cathedral. During the day there are many piligrims who are eager to see live nativity scene.

And our stay is over and so is this text. No matter that New Year has passed, we wish you well in 2013.
